  • The Fence
    By Susan Smith
Once upon a time two brothers who lived on adjoining farms fell into conflict. It was the first serious rift in 40 years of farming side by side, sharing machinery, and trading labor and goods as needed without a hitch. Then the long collaboration fell apart. It began with a small misunderstanding and it grew into a major difference, and finally it exploded into an exchange of bitter words followed by weeks of silence. One morning there was a knock on John’s door. He opened it to find a man with a carpenter’s toolbox.
  • You can ask God to help you grieve
    By Joan Guntzelman
Through all the years I’ve been dealing with dying persons or those in the midst of loss and grief, all but a few have brought God into the struggle. Many have found their relationship with God to be their strongest support or consolation in the time of grief. Even with those who said they were opposed to religion, God seemed to make an appearance in our discussions, even though the mention of God was at times somewhat negative. • Consider the Lily
    By Andy Landis
Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not: and I say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. – Luke 12:27 KJV “Sometimes when our hearts are hurting, God speaks to us when we cannot utter a word…”...
  • Mad at God!
    By Chris Heller
The death of a loved one is often accompanied by strong feelings, including anger. You might be angry with a doctor or medical professional or clergy person that you hold responsible for your loved one’s death. You could be angry with a member of your family. You...
  • The Tea Cup
    By Susan Smith
A couple was shopping in a beautiful antique store. Spotting an exceptional cup, they asked, “May we see that? We’ve never seen a cup quite so beautiful.” As the lady handed it to them, suddenly the tea cup spoke. “You don’t understand,” it said. “I have not always been...
  • Letting Go and Letting God
    By Mauryeen O'Brien

How often we have heard those words, "Letting go and letting God".  It seems when we are faced with a crisis or an obstacle, or a loss in our lives, there is always someone who quotes those words to us.  But what do they mean?  Just what is "letting...
